Affordable Yacht Submarine

The idea behind the prototype yacht submarine built and tested successfully in 1996 was to create a new type of personal submarine that has the capability to give its owner the same benefit a surface yacht would have. And do it at a building and maintainance cost that is in the same range of a similar sized surface yacht. The prototype did not only meet those objectives during its building and decade long testing phase it also overpassed those objectives widely.

The hull building and engine costs where by far lower as they would be for a traditional yacht.

The hull saves money in building phase due to 3 mayor factors - less material cost, less forming cost, and less cost for the by far smaller engine that is required for a submarine compared to a surface yacht. In general terms we can speak of hull building cost less than 1/3 of a compareable steel hull, and engine cost reduced by a similar factor.

What concerns maintainance cost the picture is even more impressive. We had the prototype parked on a mooring in the middle of a field of similar sized sailing and motor yachts that stayed in the conditions during more than a decade and gave us a very good comparative picture between traditional surface yachts and submarine yachts as we suggest.

As made out of massive concrete similar to a submarine tunnel or a bridge foundation the hull of the submarine yacht hulls we deliver is meant to receive a similar level of maintainance attention as the mentioned buildings do. This means in first place that there is no need (and no way) to take the hull out of water EVER . And second it is designed for a lifespan that exceeds widely the live span of a traditional yacht hull. A yacht life is measured in years, decades at the best. A concrete structure is planed for a life span of several decades, centuries, or more. Roman volcanic concrete - similar to modern Portland cement - is still in great shape today.

As owner of a submarine yacht as suggested here in (concretesubmarine.com) You can step away from some of the mayor costs that are associated with the maintainance of a traditional sailing or motor yacht.

Avoid building cost asociated to hull material and big engines. Avoid slip cost of taking out your yacht every season for check and repaint. Avoid asociated labor, dry dock rental etc. cost.

Avoid the cost of a marina parking space. All you need is a bouy in a anchorbay. You do not need marine infrastructure, you do not need marina safety neither bad weather nor burglar problems are a concern to a submarine yacht owner.

Avoid animal damage by seabirds, sealions, etc...

Avoid UV damage from sun - rotten sails, sprayhoods, decks, lines.

Avoid wind damage.

Avoid fuel costs of a big engine.

In all this points the cost of a submarine yacht is by far lower than a compareable surface yacht. And best of all - this is not THEORY this is tested in practice for a decades.
